Madarihat (Jaldapara National Park) - Madarihat is a part of central Dooars. Dooars is the huge stretch of plain land in the foothills of Himalaya. Himalayan range acts as a natural backdrop. Jaldapara National Park is a national park situated on the bank of river Torsa. It is situated at an altitude of 61 meters. and is spread across 216 square kilometers of vast grassland with patches of riverine forests. It was declared a sanctuary in 1941 for protection of the great variety flora and fauna. Today, it has the largest population of Indian one horned rhinoceros in the state. Chilapata Forests is a elephant corridor between Jaldapara and the Buxa Tiger Reserve. South Khairbari Nature Park is about 11 kilometers from Jaldapara, this Tourist Centre is actually a Leopard Rehabilitation Centre and Nature Park. Recently, the Royal Bengal Tigers released have been rehabilitated here. From Madarihat towards Birpara, a road goes to Khairbari. There is a Watch Tower on the river bank wherefrom you may see the leopards going this way. Kunja Nagar Eco Park is nearby. One can watch leopard, deer, gharial and rose-ringed parakeet. Chilapata Nal Rajar Garh - One can see the ruins of an old fort in the dense forests at Chilapata on the east bank of the Torsa river and is popularly called "Nal Rajar Garh". The Britishers called it "the Mendabari ruins". Excavations at this place undertaken by the archaeological department have shown that these brick constructions belonged to the "Gupta Age". It is also well known for being the maternal home of Maharani Gayatri Devi. During the British Raj, the town of Cooch Behar was the seat of the princely state of Koch Bihar, ruled by the Koch dynasty. Jaldapara wild Life Sanctuary, Hollong, South Kyarbari, Rangamati, Toto Para, Khuttimari, Makrapara, Dhumchi forest, Rangamati, Raimatang, Garuchira forest, Nimti, Kunjanagar, Maynajhora, & Phuentsholling are places of interest. The Hollong bungalow is situated well inside the forest from where exciting elephant safari is organized in the morning. Car Safari is also organized from the bungalow.
